how to gain self esteem and confidence

There are many people today who have mixed emotions about their current jobs. Some like their jobs, some hate them, others do their required hours while in a trance. This makes me think. I’m curious. Is there such a thing as a perfect job? One that fulfils all our requirements, our likes and dislikes?

I knew of someone who had spent over nine months frantically searching for what he considered to be his perfect job. Every vacancy that he came across had a particular prerequisite that he was unable to do. The last so-called perfect job required that he make bi-monthly presentations.

That was a huge drawback for him. This bi-monthly obligation really had him worried. His biggest fear was not having the right answers to all the questions he might be asked. He did not want to look a fool. His fear was brought about by the lack of knowledge of the product he was to market. He had little courage or confidence because he felt he did not know all the ins and outs of the product.

The great thing, on that occasion, was that he took this insight as feedback. Since the closing period for applications was a couple of weeks away, he applied for the position, and then spent the next few days learning all that he could about the product. He learned the specific details of the product, and what its unique selling point could be. He learned everything.

A short while later he was interviewed for that vacancy. And, get this, during that interview he had to make a short presentation in front of an interview panel of three people. Was he nervous? No. His biggest and only stumbling block had been knowing everything there was to know about the product. Once he knew that, nothing stood in his way.

Just to let you know, he got the job, and he’s loving it. The lesson I learned from his experience was that courage, added self confidence and self esteem can come from knowledge. From that moment on I decided to always be willing to learn. I am now a constant learner. My question to you is: are you willing to be a constant learner to improve on your life?
